I’ve always been envious of those people who have ‘posh’ picnics, with an endless variety of tidbits & general luxuries with seemingly no effort. Well, now I’ve joined their ranks! It took a little planning, but definitely a sign that I’m a more efficient cook than previously.
We had two of Shane’s friends and their little boy for a picnic at our allotment a few weeks ago. The little fellow was delighted as not only had he space to run around, but there was the constant spotting of overhead planes to keep him excited.
Our picnic consisted of (homegrown ingredients in bold):
- Pulled ham hocks
- Potato salad
- Tomato salad
- Cucumber, radish & mint salad
- Garden salad leaves
- Sauerkraut, chutney & mayonnaise (homemade of course!)
- Freshly made pittas (cue the chef crouching in front of the oven in her nightie that morning)
- Mealagulla apple juice
We were blessed with a roasting hot sunny day, all the better to enjoy dessert: panna cotta with just-picked strawberries (mmm, sun-warmed) and strawberry coulis.
